Syrian Hamsters are your most common hamster that you will find in pet stores. Pet stores sometimes use fancy names like Teddy bear, Panda bear, Black bear Ect. to help sell these hamsters. They are the most easy to tame and come in all colours and patterns. Syrian hamsters are more easy to handle than dwarf hamsters, but that dose not mean you should not get a dwarf hamster and syrian are the best. Most people think Syrian hamsters are the best first pet for children, they can hold it play with it ect. Well WRONG, hamsters get very stressed when you hold them, when you hold a hamster its heart rate increases by 70%. Hamsters are recommended for ages 8+. Syrian hamsters are very friendly and love to run on there wheel inside there cage.Read more facts on this page to learn more abot the Syrian hamster .

                                                                                                         History

Syrian hamsters originate from the dry desserts of Syria. There founder British zoologist George Robert Waterhouse call them the Syrian hamster because they were founded in Syria and hamster translates to "Hoarder", and Syrian hamsters hoard alot! They love to put everything from food to bedding to tissue paper in there cheek pouches, which start at there cheeks and stretch all the way to there hind legs.

Almost every pet store sells hamster food. There are mainly two types of hamsters food, Seeds and pellets or All in one seed. I would recommend All in one seed because it has all the seeds in Seed and Pellets put in one, most hamsters will be picky and not eat every seed which is important for there diet but in all in one seed all the seeds are in one big nugget so they don't pick and choose what seeds they eat. Also you can feed your hamsters treats or some human foods such as un-salted crackers, vegetable's or fruits. NOTE: Never feed your hamster candy or chocolate!
